Halloween Party Ideas Sure to Impress Your Guests Sunday, Aug 29 2010

Witches have long since been a part of Halloween custom. Every year, you’re sure to have more than a couple of witches of all shapes and sizes tapping on your door for a trick or a treat. Celebrate witches - the good, the bad and the ugly - by holding a Which Witch is Which Halloween Party! There are plenty of great halloween party ideas that go along with the Witch theme, and you and your guests are bound to have a wicked good time. Play “Which Witch is Which” - the guessing game that brings to life classic witches from childhood tales and movies. Jump on your flying broom for a celebration full of witchcraft games, devilishly delish witch goodies, and a bubbling green concoction of toad-ally tasty punch.

Of course we all have friends who think their child is an absolute angel, or a brain or the future president of the United States. Boasting and parenting go hand-in-hand. May the party invitee who is bursting with pride get the prize! In the Pride Sin Station, have a brag-off. All parents, aunts, uncles, etc. can participate. The objective of the activity is to test who has the most pride in their youngsters. The parent who carries the most pictures of her child in his wallet to your party is the winner. Bonus if he carries around his child’s report card or crayon drawing!

A witch isn’t quite as marvelous without her broom. If you have enough party space, coordinate broom races for your witches-in-training.
You will either need a large room (think finished basement or living room with the furniture cleared to side) or if it’s a nice, sunny October day, have your broom races on the grass.Make sure you have at least one broom per party person. Luckily, you probably have at least one or two in the house and you can buy the rest at a dollar store. You can even ask each witch BYOB… Bring Your Own Broom (but don’t forget to send it back home with her).

Dinner Party Ideas, Hints and Tips for a Night with Pals Friday, Jul 9 2010

Dinner parties are a classic and fun way to entertain at home and can feature a do-it-yourself menu, a potluck buffet or even a festive theme. A dinner party can be an economical way to celebrate a special occasion. Even if you’re not a great chef, great dinner party ideas, themes, easy recipes and decorating hints are simple to do yourself and make your next celebration a hit.

Dinner Party Ideas

For a casual and organic centerpiece, head out to the backyard to gather a few branches. Pick Out some with or without foliage and flowers depending on the time of year, and set them all in a high vase, jar or pitcher. An unanticipated dinner party centerpiece comes from the fruit basket. Fill a pretty metal bowl or simple white platter with produce such as oranges in summer or pumpkins in autumn.

Craft a mix by changing up the style every few songs. Begin with a mood/lounge mix, go to pop music and rock, and end the night on a high note with energetic music guests can dance to. It does not have to be a dance party - it’s the energy of the music you are going for, not the purpose to get guests swaying their hips! If you appear uneasy or are concerned things won’t go well, your friends will pick up on it as soon as they walk in the door. If you are easy going and have fun, everyone else will follow too.

Wish Lanterns Pooled with Diner Club Craze Saturday, Jun 26 2010

There is a different rage going around town, and it is this: members of the general public are inviting strangers into their homes for a magnificent dining event; a three or four course meal, with restaurant-style service, for a tiny proportion of the price. A number of reasons like people love to see how other people live or possess a good nose around their residence, and the hosts love to cook, and showcase their culinary skills, hence the supper club idea is catching on at a fast pace.

As expected, among so many of these dinner club joints to choose from in the region of London and indeed across the UK, making yours stand out for potential clientele could be tricky-no more, say we. Your diners will be totally impressed at your uniqueness and thoughtfulness when you incorporate wish lanterns, either set free at the end of the meal, or maybe given out to guests as a parting gift and you will definitely be suggested by your supper to their friends thus promoting your business and helping it keep running.

Be a Modern Machiavellian Monday, Jun 7 2010

Be a Modern Machiavellian Machiavelli once said that the end justifies the means. In most aspects of our society, a ruthless focus on the end goal is considered a bad thing. There is something about working desperately towards a goal without care for the competition that does not sit well with most of the population. Luckily for you, most of the population does not play poker. When you are clustered around the green felt, you are allowed to ignore the dictates of polite society. You are allowed to let loose your inner Machiavelli and ruthlessly cut down the opposition when you pay everyone’s favorite poker card game. Actually, in online poker you are supposed to make your opponents pay for your success. Just think about it, you end up with the pot and they end up with nothing. This seems like a crystal clear example of how harsh behavior is rewards while the weak are punished. You may not be a prince in real life, but that is no reason why you can’t take a little of Machiavelli’s advice to heart when you sit down to rule over the poker table. Remember the final goal is the final table. Clear a path there through your unsuspecting competition.

Live Poker Table Etiquette Friday, Apr 16 2010

Players who transition from online poker to playing in live rooms need to be aware of certain etiquette rules that are not really applicable to online poker play.

When you sit down at a live table, always be courteous and respectful to the other players. Do not engage in any of these no-no’s that are unwelcome at live poker games:

* Do not reveal your cards to anyone while play is still going on. Even if you have already folded your hand, do not announce which cards you folded. This can influence the betting action as it gives the remaining players valuable information.

* If you have folded cards that would have made a big hand after the flop, keep it to yourself. Don’t reel back in your seat or slap the table or curse or in any other way indicate what cards you threw away.

* Do not criticize another player’s actions. Poker players can bet their cards and chips any way they want. Even when a poor player makes a stupid bet and then winds up winning, be calm and polite about it.

* Don’t offer advice to other players and don’t talk about a hand in progress, whether you are in it or not.

* Do not blame the dealer for bad cards. Be respectful, understand that the cards are random and it’s not the dealer’s fault when you get a bad run of cards.

Looking at Loss Thursday, Feb 25 2010

All poker players have some losing sessions - it is part of the game. Sometimes though even an seasoned player experiences loss after loss after loss. It is very discouraging and can put a player on permanent tilt. How do you approach and overcome losing streaks?

There are typically a few common reasons why an experienced player suddenly starts losing consistently. If this happens to you, then consider these factors:

* Blatant bad luck - it happens and there is nothing to do about it. However, if this is truly the reason you’re losing, then take heart because luck evens out the long run. It will change. Take a break for a while and come back refreshed.

* Predictable play - perhaps you play poker online with the same circle of players on a regular basis. Or you stick too much to solid A-B-C play. In either case, you’ve become a predictable presence at the table and that makes it easier for your opponents to out play you. Experiment with mixing up your strategies and style so you are not so easy to read.

* Being over your head - you could be playing games that are just too tough for you. Take it down a level to where you are more confident of winning. Don’t take on tough games just to stoke your ego. Play to win, not to prove yourself.

* Re-acquaint yourself with the fundamentals of sound online poker. Read some new books or review training videos. This will help you refresh your games.

The Four Sequence Bad Beat Doesn’t Exist Wednesday, Dec 2 2009

Most cardrooms that have bad beat jackpots have a certain stipulation that requires that the two hole cards be played in order for the bad beat to be in the jackpot. Usually the bad beat starts at Aces full over Kings full. But this brings up an interesting online poker situation when you have a straight flush possibility on the board with four of the flush cards on the board. Would the bad beat occur if four of the flush cards were on the board and one person held the top two, and the other person held the bottom two. Here’s an example. The board comes 7h, 8h, 9h, 10h, 10d. One person holds the 56h, while the other holds the JQh. Now is this a bad beat by the hole card standard? In a word. No. What? Now to the sharper knives in the drawer this will already make sense. But let me explain. You see, the 56 would have a 10 high straight flush. 6-10. The JQ would have the Q high straight flush 8-Q. Now this looks like a bad beat on the surface, and in reality it is. A straight flush over a straight flush. But by the online poker standards it’s not, sicne the 5h won’t play. In hold ‘em the best hand of the community and hole cards are played. You don’t get a choice as to whether or not you play your 5, you have to play your 6-10 flush regardless of if you want to. Not that you’re ever really going to lay a straight flush down in online poker, just don’t get your feelings hurt when you don’t get the bad beat jackpot because your 5 didn’t play and the stipulation was that both hole cards have to play. In a nutshell, there is no such thing as a four sequence bad beat with the straight flush.

Warming up Winter with Asheville Vacation Rentals Tuesday, Nov 24 2009

A winter vacation doesn’t have to be dreary and cold when you use Asheville vacation rentals. Start warming up with plans for skiing the slopes, going for gourmet and organic comfort foods, or having a steamy coffee or cocoa. Don’t forget to plan warming up next to the fireplace, or loosening up in the hot tub.

Asheville’s winter weather is mild, but we’re just minutes away from top slopes where the higher elevations translate to snow. A winter stay in Asheville puts skiers, snowboarders and snow tubers about 30 minutes away from the closest slopes, and just over an hour from some of the highest ski peaks east of the Mississippi River, with elevations over 5,500 feet. The highest Carolina mountain peaks average 60 inches of snow a year and expert snow makers keep the powder fresh even when Mother Nature does not cooperate.

Taking a break from sports, a leisurely morning stroll through downtown Asheville’s many art galleries and a power shop in Biltmore Village will do the trick. A warm inviting latté really hits the spot.

Asheville is a coffee lover’s paradise that rivals even Seattle for high quality Java. Many local shops roast their own beans for the best in freshness. You’ll also find premium coffees from all over the world, many organically grown and sold under fair trade agreements.

Is what you need a rich, steaming hot mug of hot chocolate? Go on a hot chocolate tasting through the numerous cafes, restaurants and chocolate companies downtown.

Nothing takes away the chill after hitting the slopes or exploring Asheville on a crisp, cold winter day like a bowl of hot soup. The Asheville area chefs make some creative hot soups, often including locally-grown and seasonal ingredients from local farms.

Come to Asheville to warm up for winter and stay in an Asheville vacation rental.

The All Knowing Poker Camera Friday, Nov 20 2009

Most online poker players out there realize that there is just as much enjoyment to be found in watching a good poker game as there is in playing. This is why you always see crowds at casinos watching exciting poker hands. In many ways watching takes away the stress and lets the audience appreciate it in its purest form.

The problem with watching poker online instead of playing is that the audience is at a complete loss as to what each player is holding. Add to that the classic poker face, and the audience does not get any thrill until the showdown. Televised poker has rectified this situation by using hole cams and over the shoulder cams to show the home audience what each player is holding. Now the home audience knows even more about what is on the table that the players.

The problem with this omniscient knowledge is that poker is not supposed to be viewed by an all knowing position. Knowing everything about the game is almost the same effect as knowing nothing. There is no excitement in the situation because there is no mystery. Unfortunately, there is no middle ground in sight as televised shows continue to bare all for the viewer’s benefit. This is one situation where a little more modesty would be appreciated.

Chinese Lanterns Hot to Snap Friday, Nov 13 2009

Chinese Lanterns are very fashionable this year and the squad at Chinese Lanterns have had some great moments attempting to capture decent pic’s on film of these magical lanterns Well in all honestness we have been utilizing digital cam’s as opposed to film due to the ease of operation and manipulation of the photo’s;Quick edit and instant playback of shots as well as the storage to take pic’s in the 1000’s in one outing! The storage cap of my old polaroid 24 snaps camera seems archaic by comparability. I recently purchased a fresh camera and can assure you it was not a conclusion I made lightly With so many brands models and technical features to get your head around and that’s before taking into account the reviews that tend to oppose each other to some extent. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by it all. I found that using a site like dpreview.com is very handy as it breaks the camera’s into classes such as compact, prosumer etc. It also has user yielded content and some well written articles on the different models. But after all that the decison does actually and figuratively rest in your grip.. You really need to get one in your hands to know what feels correct for your style of photography
