Most online poker players out there realize that there is just as much enjoyment to be found in watching a good poker game as there is in playing. This is why you always see crowds at casinos watching exciting poker hands. In many ways watching takes away the stress and lets the audience appreciate it in its purest form.
The problem with watching poker online instead of playing is that the audience is at a complete loss as to what each player is holding. Add to that the classic poker face, and the audience does not get any thrill until the showdown. Televised poker has rectified this situation by using hole cams and over the shoulder cams to show the home audience what each player is holding. Now the home audience knows even more about what is on the table that the players.
The problem with this omniscient knowledge is that poker is not supposed to be viewed by an all knowing position. Knowing everything about the game is almost the same effect as knowing nothing. There is no excitement in the situation because there is no mystery. Unfortunately, there is no middle ground in sight as televised shows continue to bare all for the viewer’s benefit. This is one situation where a little more modesty would be appreciated.
