HSN1 - A Type of Avian Influenza Virus Wednesday, Apr 30 2008

H5N1 is a type of avian influenza virus (bird flu virus) that has mutated[1] through antigenic drift into dozens of highly pathogenic varieties, but all currently belonging to genotype Z of avian influenza virus H5N1. Genotype Z emerged through reassortment in 2002 from earlier highly pathogenic genotypes of H5N1[2] that first appeared in China in 1996 in birds and in Hong Kong in 1997 in humans[3]. The “H5N1 viruses from human infections and the closely related avian viruses isolated in 2004 and 2005 belong to a single genotype, often referred to as genotype Z.” [1]

The avian influenza subtypes that have been confirmed in humans, ordered by the number of known human deaths, are: H1N1 caused Spanish flu, H2N2 caused Asian Flu, H3N2 caused Hong Kong Flu, H5N1, H7N7, H9N2, H7N2, H7N3, H10N7.

All avian influenza (AI) viruses are type A influenza virus in the virus family of Orthomyxoviridae and all known strains of influenza A virus infect birds. Influenzavirus type A is subdivided into subtypes based on hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N) protein spikes from the central virus core. There are 16 H types, each with up to 9 N subtypes, yielding a potential for 144 different H and N combinations.

Avian influenza (also known as bird flu, avian flu, influenzavirus A flu, type A flu, or genus A flu) is a flu due to a type of influenza virus that is hosted by birds, but may infect several species of mammals.

An influenza pandemic is a large scale epidemic of the influenza virus, such as the 1918 Spanish flu. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that there is a substantial risk of an influenza pandemic within the next few years. One of the strongest candidates is the A(H5N1) subtype of avian influenza.

A myxovirus of the genus Influenzavirus, antigenically varying from influenza virus type A and influenza virus type C, that causes various respiratory illnesses in humans.

A myxovirus of the genus Influenzavirus, antigenically varying from influenza virus type B and influenza virus type C, that causes acute respiratory illness in humans.

Influenza caused by infection with a strain of influenza virus type C.

People should get vaccine who are:

People 65 years of age or older.
Resident of nursing home and other chronic-care facilities.
Adults and adolescents with chronic pulmonary or cardiovascular disorders, including asthma.
Health care workers, care givers and others who might transmit influenza virus to persons at high-risk for complications from infection.

People who are less able to fight infections because of a disease they are born with, infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), treatment with medications such as long-term steroids, and/or treatment for cancer with X-rays or medications.

Adults and adolescents who required regular medical follow-up or hospitalization during the preceding year because of chronic illnesses (including diabetes mellitus), kidney diseases, and blood cell diseases such as sickle cell anemia.

Women who will be in the second or third trimester of pregnancy during the flu season (December - March).

Persons 6 months to 18 years of age who receive long-term aspirin therapy and therefore might be at risk for developing Reye syndrome after influenza.

Casinos Pitch in for Katrina Relief Tuesday, Apr 29 2008

The online casino industry has heeded the call for help and aid in light of the devastating effects of hurricane Katrina that has almost entirely wiped out the city of New Orleans and surrounding states in the US.

Online casinos have been using their business savvy and overwhelming pull on players to generate a lot of money that will go towards relief efforts for this catastrophic humanitarian disaster. A large part of the city of New Orleans is alleged to be submerged under and in ruins, and emergency relief aid agencies report the total damages may amount to over 25 billion US dollars.

Bodog Online Casino, a leading casino brand on the Net is holding five benefit poker tournaments for the victims of this natural disaster and they have volunteered to donate all the monies earned from the online casino tournaments to relief agencies such as the Red Cross.

Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog Online Casino said, “We [Bodog] are deeply saddened to hear of the many victims caught in the devastating path of the hurricane. So many people have been adversely affected by this natural disaster, and our benefit poker tournament is the least we can do to help ease the pain of those who were most affected”.

The Fortune Lounge Group also did their bit to aid survivors of Hurricane Katrina by running a tournament at their online poker rooms. The Hold’em No Limit Freezeout tournament took place on 6 September 2005 and the prestigious Royal Vegas Poker and 7 Sultans Poker brands were involved. The buy-ins to play in the tournament was $25+$0 and that means both poker rooms were kind enough to match the donations made by players because they did not take in any fees for the tournament. 50% of prize pool went to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and the other 50% went to the top 20 finishers, based on a percentage prize pool. All in all $10,000 was raised for an extremely relevant cause.

The U.S. Gulf Coast was severely destroyed by hurricane Katrina which left more than a million people displaced, without cloths, shelter, food or water. Bodog Online Casino and Fortune Lounge are not the only gambling sites that saw the need to donate proceeds to charity. Many online casinos stepped in to lend a helping hand or contributed to aid to help victims of the devastating Asian tsunami of 26 December 2005.

Hate to Write? Hire a Ghost! Why Using a Ghostwriter is Not Cheating Tuesday, Apr 29 2008

We are funny about writing. We think everyone can write — after
all, we learned how in first grade! Reading and writing are a
big part of what makes us “civilized.” One of the correlating
lessons that we learned, at the tender age of four or five, was
that we must do our own work. Never, ever, copy someone else.

A first grader can write a simple story. A fourth grader can
write a book report. By the time you got to high school, you had
learned to research and do reports on complex subjects. You had
learned grammar and spelling and sentence construction. You had
read some great works of Literature.

So now you are an adult and you should be able to write a book
of your own. Right? Not necessarily. Writing is a difficult
skill. It takes time to perform it well. It takes effort and
dedication and persistence. It helps to have talent, or skill.
It really, really helps if you love to write. Not everyone has
this knowledge, skill, talent, or time. Not everyone loves to
write.

Maybe your skills and talents lie elsewhere. Maybe you don’t
have the time to devote to a project as big as writing a book.
Maybe you would rather clean the toilet than put pen to paper or
fingers on a keyboard. But does that mean that your great ideas,
your new methods, your inspirational stories, are not worthy of
a book? Of course not!

Regardless of what your second grade teacher told you, you don’t
have to do it all by yourself. Many people are available to help
you author your book - writers, editors, proofreaders,
illustrators, designers, printers, publicists. They can do much
of the work, including writing, while you oversee the process
and ensure that your idea or story is presented in a way that is
true to your own vision.

You can hire a ghostwriter, an editor, or a writing coach to
help you put your ideas and stories into words that will excite,
inspire, inform or delight your readers. Ghostwriters will do
all the writing work for you, from organization and structure to
color and characterization - basically from your head and out
the ghostwriter’s fingers. Editors will take what you have
already written and make it better. Writing coaches will guide
you with suggestions while you write.

But wait - isn’t that cheating? Some people think so. This goes
back to school days, when having someone else write your term
paper was cheating. (It still is.) But that was because having
someone else write for you meant you were not learning, which
was then your primary job. It was also cheating to use a
calculator while taking a math test, because you were supposed
to be learning how to do mathematics, not punch buttons.

This is no longer true. You can use a calculator now without
guilt. You can also hire a writer to help you put your ideas on
paper. (Of course they must be your ideas - it’s still wrong to
steal others’ ideas and pass them off as your own.)

Hiring a writer is a little like hiring an architect. Say you
are finally able to build your dream house. You have lots of
ideas for this house. You know how many bedrooms you want; you
know you want it on a wooded lot where the deer feed in the
mornings; you know your kitchen must have a central island and
space for at least two people to cook; you know you want natural
gas heat; and you even know that your Jacuzzi bathtub must
overlook a private patio with a great view of the mountains. You
know you like blues and tans and that your taste runs to
impressionist art like Monet and Morisot, and you hate the
pop-art of Andy Warhol. Your style is elegant and cool instead
of funky and casual, and you admire the work of I.M. Pei.

Wow, you know a lot, don’t you? But can you draw up the plans to
build this house? Do you know which materials to buy and which
carpenters to hire? Do you know how to wire the house, and how
the plumbing works, and where to apply for all the permits?
Probably not. Can you learn? Sure - if you’ve got a few spare
years.

So instead you hire an architect or a construction firm, and you
tell them everything you want and what matters to you, and they
translate your ideas into a living reality. But it’s still your
house. It reflects who you are, not who the architect is. When
someone admires the beauty of your house, they are admiring you
- your taste, your plans, your ideas.

It’s the same with your writing. Your original ideas and stories
belong to you, therefore so does your book, even though you may
not have written it all by yourself. This is why the copyright
of your book belongs to you, not your ghostwriter, editor or
coach. And be sure to get it in writing!

Teak Outdoor Furniture — From the Forests to Ships to Your Patio Tuesday, Apr 29 2008

Teak outdoor furniture is some of the best outdoor furniture that can be made, but do you know why? First, let us talk about what teak is.

So, what is teak?

Teak is a deciduous tropical hardwood that is native to the south and southeast of Asia. There are three types of teak: common teak, daphat teak, and Philippine teak. The latter two are endangered, so you most certainly do not want to have any teak outdoor furniture made from them! Common teak, though, is yet to be considered endangered, and it is still a fine material for teak outdoor furniture, among other things. Fortunately, the popularity of teak has led to more sustainable production.

What other things is teak used for besides teak outdoor furniture?

First and foremost, teak was and is used as a material on ships. This is interesting, because teak does not actually float very well. In fact, when teak is being logged down, they cannot float it down the river like you can do with other logs. Rather, elephants would drag it out and stack it!

Obviously, teak is not a popular material in shipping because of its great flotation properties. Rather, it is used because it is easy to work with, resists decay, and can help prevent rust on metal that it is in contact with.

Teak is also used for teak outdoor furniture, too, of course, and it is used for fairly similar reasons. Because of the natural oils in teak, it is highly resistant to all weather conditions and it can also resist insect (termites, etc.) attacks. In other words, teak is perfect for practically all outdoor uses.

Therefore, it is used not just for teak outdoor furniture, but also for doors and window panes in India, as well as many other things.

Should you buy teak outdoor furniture for yourself?

Teak is a wonderful material for outdoor furniture that will last a lifetime (or more if properly cared for). Of course, the cost of teak outdoor furniture reflects this. So, whether or not it is worth it to you to empty out your wallet on a set of teak outdoor furniture is totally up to you.

Outdoor furniture made from other woods can be just as stylish, and it can even last almost as long when properly cared for. The choice is up to you.

If you do buy teak outdoor furniture, you will not regret it, though!

Menopause Symptoms, Diet, Exercises, Weight Gain: Tips to Sail through Menopause with Ease! Tuesday, Apr 29 2008

Menopause literally means the last menstrual period. It
generally occurs in mid-life, that is around the age of 40. It
is characterized by hormonal changes. Menstrual cycle stops and
so does the production of some hormones like estrogen.
Menopausal women often experiences weight gain along with
weakening of bones.

Post menopause, women have have higher risk of osteoporosis and
cardiovascular diseases because of the inherent hormonal
changes. Hot flushes with sudden bouts of sweating are commonly
felt by women. Other Symptoms being failing eyesight, hair loss,
weak bones, dry skin and erratic sleep patterns. The key to
staying youthful and active even after menopause is to follow
regular exercise routine and a nutritious diet.

Regular Exercise Routine:

Going in for an exercise program which addresses the entire body
is always beneficial. Even exercises like walking, swimming,
jogging, dancing are useful. To get a complete cardio workout,
involve yourself in some aerobic exercise. You can also hit a
gym for some weight training which will increase your strength.
Training with dumbbells at home, but under guidance, can serve
the purpose for you. It is important to stretch and relax too.
Relaxation helps you overcome depression related to menopause.
Exercise will also combat weight gain which a women generally
experiences during menopause. Yoga is the most effective way to
work out. it not only keeps your body active but also keeps your
mind stress-free.

Balanced Diet:

Other important issue to handle the most difficult stage for
women is to eat a balanced diet with little add-ons. Diet should
be particularly high in Calcium and Phytoestrogens.
Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring compounds, similar to
estrogens, found in plants. Phytoestrogens can be easily found
in soya and tofu. Diet high in phytoestrogens reduces the hot
flush by 40%. This is the reason why Japanese women face less
severe menopausal symptoms than their western counterparts.
Recommended amount: 10-15g of tofu or 2 cups of soya milk. Dairy
products, which are high in Calcium, also reduces bone loss to
great extent. Recommended amount: 1000gm. Since Vitamin D
promotes the consumption of calcium, it is essential to provide
enough amount of vitamin D to body. Normal exposure to sun
should provide the body with right amount of vitamin D.

Since drop in estrogen can lead to weight gain, it is wise to
undertake some weight loss program to avoid complexities later
in life such as diabetes, joint pains, heart-related diseases.

It is also believed that some vitamins are beneficial, specially
during perimenopause. For eg Vitamin E relieves hot flushes,
Vitamin B2 alleviates perimenopausal headaches, Vitamin B6 and
Vitamin B12 help fight depression.

Tip: If you find having sex uncomfortable due to thinning and
drying of vaginal lining, use a water based lubricant.

What printing can do for you Monday, Apr 28 2008

Poster printing would definitely be the first choice in
advertising. It easily catches the eye of the customers making
them look into the poster and the design. What would your
impression be if you passed by a big poster in the streets or
anywhere you find one? For sure, if you get pleased with the
structure and design, it will remain in your mind and make you
curious about the information it brings out. The most essential
part of printing covers that role. To make prints that is catchy
and informative. In most commercial business organizations, they
have switched to making their posters printed digitally. It has
brought them different advantages which are highly sensible in
keeping high with their production.

Who said posters are made for advertising only? Posters can play
the role of giving out information to the people. Signs and
warnings are one of them. When you get in a strange place, you
will see billboards and signs all over. At least you know how to
read because if you don’t, no matter how pretty your posters and
signs will look like, it will be of no use at all.

Posters before were printed in small formats just like the size
of bond papers and mind you, they were printed the old way like
into big rooms and printing devices that are old. Prints were
never really accurate then. Sometimes, prints have spilled on
other pages or parts of the paper making it look messy. Those
things were common because the printing method is not as
accurate as the newest trend in printing which is the digital
printing which makes use of inkjet printers. Inkjet printers
perform stunningly perfect and clear. Images and colors are
captured brightly with gorgeous effects.

So the digital age’s proofs are the big posters you see in the
streets which are captivating. Some of it are banners,
presentations and signs displayed everywhere. Signs are seen all
over places. Warning on streets about prone accident areas are
products of posters. Although these posters need not too much
designing and coloring effect, it still pays off. Sometimes,
even if you don’t care to read about it again the next time, it
is engraved in your mind and the colors give you a fresh look.

Some may not see the effect that printing brings but they never
really know how those prints have helped them in the simplest
way.

The Unsung Heroes Of Internet Marketing Monday, Apr 28 2008

One of the reasons that people fail to earn anything close to a living on the Internet is that they fail to take the time to learn how to do it!

This may sound crazy, but it’s true. People want results yesterday, not tomorrow, not a few months down the line, but yesterday.

But how can you get results if you don’t learn the “how to’s” of anything in life?

One of the best ways to learn how to market is to find yourself a mentor, a person who has been there and done it, walked the walk and talked the talk.

How do you find a mentor? Simple, read ezine articles, surf web sites and soon you will notice that some names will become very familiar to you. After a while you will get a feel for people integrity, whether what they are telling you is good advise or just a load of hype.

When you feel that a particular person gives you good advise, follow that persons teachings. If the advice is good, two thing will happen:

1) You will have yourself a mentor.

2) You will start making money using their strategies.

Does you mentor need to know you?

No, not really, you just need to follow their teachings.

There may come a point that you may want to contact your mentor directly and introduce yourself. If your mentor has the integrity that you felt they should have, they will respond - and hey, a new relationship is born.

Personally, I have been following the teachings of an online marketer for some time now. I visit his web site regularly and he has given me much inspiration. I don’t know him personally, and he doesn’t know me, but he has helped me a lot.

Who is the Sage? His name is John Olson of shop-money-time.com. I “met” him when I joined FreeNetLeads. I signed up through a person in his downline.

John is one of those unsung heroes, he writes a weekly “sermon” to his FreeNetLeads downline, and expects nothing in return.

He is one of those people who quietly sits in the background making money on the Internet without having to ram his sales message down your throat, like some of the so-called Gurus do.

To me, John is a Guru (I’m sure he wouldn’t like to be called that though!), as a former door-to-door salesman, John knows how to sell.

John is a lesson to all Internet Marketers. Why? because he isn’t overtly trying to sell anything to his downline, he is just providing good solid marketing advice and inspiration.

And his reward? The knowledge that he is helping people succeed, is his reward.

If this article has taught you nothing else, I hope it has taught you to learn and to help others.

London Restaurant Locations Monday, Apr 28 2008

Some of the foremost of the capital’s restaurants are also considered to be a few of the coolest on the globe. Connoisseurs often go a long way to eat at these hotspots & often one will be compelled to book a table ahead of time to get a place, or at the very least be willing to sit in the bar for a small number of cocktails till a table is free. A leading venue to eat in is Ping Pong - this spot is an attractive, funky venue to eat out in. This exquisite and plush place serves up a few of the very best Dim Sum menus that you’ll ever try, an excellent collection of perfumed tea and first-rate cocktails. Should you adore Dim Sum dishes, this spot is likely one of the principal venues to sup in.

Likewise, Nobu is a fresh Japanese restaurant. This spot is Nobu’s first United Kingdom venture & it has performed admirably. Nobu’s eating is fantastic & despite that the courses are, from time to time, modest, this spot should not be any trouble, seen as you’ll doubtless buy all sorts of portions - savour in the calibre over the dish sizes. Predominantly, this venue offers you terrific cuisine, has comely employees and a tremendous service.

The Electric Birdcage situated in St James Street, is a venue in which your imagination can go truly wild. At this fresh, new restaurant and cocktail bar the menu is made up of modern day Asian fare & it has been described as being a must visit restaurant - the place’s cocktail drinks are similarly superb and their best drinks have to be tasted by all of us. The city comes with thousands of high priced, exclusive eateries, though keep in mind it also comprises lots of cheap venues, and often these are similarly the city’s snug and concealed prizes.

London, as is broadly known, is currently an example of one of the most exciting cities of the world - all the same, don’t forget it can be quite pricey. If you’re seeking phenomenal, cheap meals then one is in a good town to get it, supposing you also roughly around the right places. London comes with a range of excellent options - pizza joints, cheap Italians & lots of whole food places. The Gourmet Burger Kitchen’s an incredible burger joint inspired by many high quality burger houses found in England. There exists each and every combination of burger imaginable, which implies there’s burgers to cater for everybody. GBK is really low priced, & the servings are gigantic, there is certainly no necessity to purchase any more in this joint. The Masala Zone’s a pioneering bunch of innovative Indian venues. These restaurants are all fairly priced and supply traditional Indian Street menus, wonderful for those times when one needs to feast, even so a person’s engagement mustn’t last overly long, or may be great for when you are with a party of associates & you’re looking for a venue with wonderful eating and obviously the atmosphere which will match. Getting Revenge On Bandwidth Stealers Sunday, Apr 27 2008

Well, you’ve discovered that someone is stealing your bandwidth.
You’ve sent them a polite email (if you can figure out an email
address) and perhaps even a less than polite message. They keep
stealing your images, your sound files, your videos and even
your zip files. What do you do now?

One thing that is very common is to replace the graphics image
with something else, something which boldly says “stop doing
this”. I’ve known some people who use pornographic images or
include swear words. I would not recommend these actions, as
they are unprofessional. A simple “This person is a thief” or
“this website is stealing bandwidth” or something to that effect
is fine.

Don’t worry about how big you make the graphic - it will show up
just fine on the offender’s web page. If they did not include
high and width tags, the graphic will show as is, otherwise it
will be distorted - but who cares?

Remember to fully optimize the graphic image. A GIF with eight
colors is perfect, and a JPEG image compress by 50% to even 80%
is great. This reduces the effect of the bandwidth stealing by
lowering the size of the image that’s being stolen.

Let’s say you have an image that’s 50k in size and it’s being
stolen. The web site that’s using the image is displaying it 100
times a day. That’s 5 megabytes of stolen bandwidth per day! If
you can create a new graphic and optimize the image to, say, 5k,
you reduce the effect to 500k of bandwidth instead of 5mb. In
addition, of course, since the person stealing the bandwidth
will hopefully stop doing it, then you may eliminate the problem
all together.

You can even reduce the graphic to a simple 2 color 1X1 pixel
image if you want (although that will not display the rude
message). This may be your only option if the webmaster still
does not remove the link to your images.

Oh yes, there is another important piece to remember. You have
to change the name of the graphic that your own pages are using.
Otherwise, of course, your pages will show that you are a thief,
and that’s not what you want.

Let’s say you are using a graphic called “mine.jpg” and it is
127k in size. Several sites link to that graphic. You go to each
of those sites, get the webmaster email address from each, and
send a polite letter asking them to remove the link. You are
ignored (which is often the case). A harsher email is not only
ignored but one of the webmasters responds with a nasty email.

So you go ahead and rename “mine.jpg” to something like
“mine2.jpg”, then create a new image which is only 2k in size
(just 4 colors) which says “This webmaster is stealing graphics.
Please ask him to stop”.

I’ll bet that graphic comes down very fast.

I had a similar problem some time ago. I run several webrings
and one of the problems that constantly occurs is ring member
sites link directly to the graphics on my own host. They do this
even though the rules of the ring clearly state this is not
allowed.

This left me with a dilemma. I didn’t want to damage the beauty
of the ring by putting out a “stop stealing” graphic, but since
I am paying for my own bandwidth I wanted to reduce the load. I
also didn’t want to remove the image as I don’t like 404 errors
(I get an email for each and every one).

After repeated emails to the ring member site didn’t work I was
left with the choice of removing the images or removing the site
from the ring. The later option would still have left the
bandwidth being stolen (since the ring member probably would not
remove the graphic).

What I wound up doing is creating a very optimal graphic with
just 2 colors. The barest minimum graphic. It still looked okay,
but was clearly not the best graphic for the ring. The file size
of the image was less than 1k which removed over 1mb a month
from my bandwidth usage.

I know none of this is the ideal solution. It can be a royal
pain to examine server logs, send email and change image names.
However, if you’ve got a big offender it can significantly
reduce your bandwidth utilization.
